- Standard or Manual Espresso Machine: As the name suggest, in this you have to ground the coffee beans or get a grounded coffee. You have to control the forth control and add filter, grounded coffee and water.
- Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine: In addition to the manual espresso machine, it has an in-built coffee bean grinder and then just adds some water, control the froth and it will do the rest. Note: don’t forget to turn off the machine once it’s done.
- Automatic Espresso Machine: In this type of machines you just have to add coffee beans rest is controlled by the machine itself. The water intake, control of froth etc. are taken care by the machine only. It has a timer which you can set for when you want coffee and it will brew the coffee by a push of start button. It also has an internal disposal area where it cleans the residue by itself.

- Pressure
- Temperature, and
- Time

These 3 features can decide whether the machine is worth buying or not. For a perfect cup of coffee, pressure required is 9 to 13 bar pressure. The temperature should be around 95oC during extraction and time should be taken is about 25 to 30 seconds. The machine should not produce crema i.e. reddish brown foam on top; it produces if machine works below 9 bar pressure. Real espresso is always without crema.
